Island Discovery & Chocolate Experience

Embarking on NCL's "Island Discovery & Chocolate Experience" excursion in Cozumel, Mexico offers a day filled with potential discoveries, diverse landscapes, and the intricate world of chocolate-making.

On the Move

The journey begins at the pier's end, where a guide awaits to lead you through the day. After a swift check-in, the group boards a coach bus that will be your mode of transportation. However, the bus's engine noise and a less-than-ideal speaker system may affect the clarity of the guide's commentary.

During this 4 hours and half excursion, each stop offers approximately 30 minutes of exploration time. At a high level, this is the route you will take for the different stops throughout the duration of the excursion. As you traverse the island, this excursion seamlessly weaves together elements of Mayan culture, the scenic view of Cozumel, and the craftsmanship involved in making chocolate.

Mayan Bee Sanctuary

The first destination introduces you to the captivating Mayan Bee Sanctuary, where the ancient art of cultivating stingless Melipona bees comes to life. A brief Mayan ceremony unfolds, providing unique cultural insights into the traditions of the Mayan people.

Before the honey tasting, the guide shares the fascinating link between sinkholes (cenotes) and Mayan culture, providing additional context to enrich your understanding. As part of the tour, you will then engage in a guided tasting session, savoring the distinct flavors of Melipona bees honey.

Afterward, explore the gift shop, where you can purchase honey and handcrafted products.

El Mirador Lookout

Next up is the El Mirador lookout. From here, you can see the waves crashing against limestone arches, creating a stunning backdrop. There's also a Cozumel sign that's perfect for snapping a few photos.

This spot isn't just about the view; it's a great place to enjoy the sounds of the sea and feel the breeze. There's also a local bar nearby where you can grab a refreshing margarita.

If you're looking for a simple and serene break, El Mirador is the place. Take in the scenery, snap a few pictures, and enjoy the moment.

Mayan Cacao Company

The next stop on your journey is the Mayan Cacao Company, where the age-old art of Mayan chocolate production comes to life. Here, you'll witness traditional methods of processing cacao beans, providing a firsthand look into the meticulous practices that have defined Mayan chocolate for centuries.

The tasting session that ensues allows you to savor the unique flavors and nuances of authentic Mayan chocolate, a delightful homage to the expertise passed down through generations.

The on-site gift shop offers an array of opportunities to bring home a piece of this rich cultural history, with authentic Mayan chocolate products available for purchase.

Barriecito Tequila Place

The tour concludes with a visit to BARRIECITO, a tequila place. Gain insights into the production of this iconic spirit from the blue agave plant and savor diverse flavors through a tequila tasting.

Adjacent to the tequila haven, there's also a tequila shop, allowing you to explore and purchase a variety of tequila products.

After this final stop, the bus will smoothly transport you back to the pier, concluding your day of exploration and cultural indulgence.
